The OPEN City project aims to provide fragile and disadvantaged social groups with learning and further training opportunities in five countries: Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Italy and Latvia. It supports the promotion, insertion and implementation of innovative and creative elements, associated with creativity and self-expression, in learning paths for unemployed people –who often find obstacles to access formal academic options.
At the same time, citizens are encouraged to strengthen their artistic inclinations, their social activism and their communicative skills and competencies so that their employability is improved.
Therefore, the project aims to fill this gap by creating interactions and collaborations between unemployed adults and local artists and social innovators. OPEN CITY will put values and commons back at the center of human interactions between neighbors by strengthening values, skills and potential for social cohesion in specific neighborhoods of selected European cities, mainly through artistic expressions and collaborative practices among citizens. In this way, OPEN CITY will favor collective trust between residents, empower them to acquire new social and civic skills, and support the creation of sustainable welfare schemes at the micro level - i.e. a block of flats, a street, a specific area in a selected neighborhood.
